'The Team'
Put a face to a name time, here are the members who run the various areas of the club with a brief run down of their background.
| Andy Stickland - Chairman. Joined Mad Freelanders in February 2007. Have been on 7 events since then, plus 2 others outside the club. Owned two Freelanders, first one being a 3 door XSi and currently a 5 door Td4. Interest are Green Laning (of course), Walking, Mountain Biking and also my son and partner. Have reasonable knowledge on vehicles and have worked in the motor industry for 21 years. Currently a service advisor for Stafford Audi. | |
| Alan Bowles - Treasurer & Membership Secretary. Alan learned to drive off road in the East African bush when he was only just old enough to see through the steering wheel of his father’s Series II, with blocks fitted on the pedals and a cushion under his backside. All highly irregular of course, and not to be condoned, but that’s how things were done out there. Years later back in England he turned up for his driving test in the same Series II, much to the examiner’s disapproval! Alan acquired his own first LR, a Freelander TD4, in 2002 and was green laning in it just three weeks later. Since then it has had various modifications, and gets out and muddy as often as possible. Alan has been with M.A.D Freelanders since the start and is also a committee member of the Freelander Club. | |
| Simon 'Si' Stirley - General Manager. One of the founder members of MAD Freelanders along with Big G & H, After a brief stint with a 'Blue Oval' vehicle he has finally seen sense and is back in a V6 Freelander. Si has considerable offroad experience, is a member of and works closely with GLASS, and is also a member of the Freelander Club. When not getting offroad he works in IT and spends his days with his head in a computer, well thats assuming he is not side tracked by his MG or Mini Cooper! | |
| John Williams - Affiliations Officer. The latest addition to The Team, John takes the role over from Richard Folland. He is one of the more active members of the club and holds the record for attending the most events since the clubs birth. | |
| Richard Folland - Events Co-ordinator. Richard has been with MAD Freelanders since its start in November 2004. Starting out in the role of Press Officer with the need to promote the Freelander and the Club, and recently moving on to look after our Events calendar. Having traded his original Freelander for a nice shiney D90 it wasn't long before he missed it and is now back in a Freelander Commercial. | |
| Scott Morse - ordinary committee member Scott has been a stalwart of the club for many years. Having owned most variants on the Td4 Freelander he's finally succumbed to a D90 - but we're sure he'll see sense again soon :) | |
| Les Plant - Southern England West Area Rep Les has worked in the house-building industry all his life and is now working as a site manager for a major house-builder. Drove his first Land-Rover (series 2A) at the age of 14. But turned to motorbikes after leaving school and spent the next 14 years on 2 wheels. Has always wanted a Land Rover and when the opportunity arose he purchased a Freelander. Also collects model Land-Rovers and has a collection of over 150, and can claim to owning a centre steer!!!! (Albeit a model one!!). He enjoys getting out in the country-side so greenlaning fits the bill. | |
| Ian Walker - Central England West Area Rep Ian has been driving and riding trial bikes since about 12yrs old. Involved in on & off road racing until 1990 with bikes and cars. Passed his test in armoured LWB 1980. Driven all round the world while in military much of it off road. Spent over a year in Belize where big part of job was route proving in jungle this was in 101 & SII/III. Fully trained in Mountain Leadership & Qualified First Aid Instructor. Have owned a number of LRs over years and driven most. | |
