'How It All began ....'

MAD Freelanders would never have existed if it hadn't of been for the Freelander Club. So to start with we thank Victoria & Julian of the Freelander club for bringing us all together and allowing those of us with more serious off road agendas to organise and run the offroad events for the Freelander Club. From this a group of us decided that there was not enough off road events run by the Freelander club, so a small core of members who were dedicated to off roading the Freelander set up what you see in the pages of this web site.

So MAD Freelanders was first establish by Geraint (Big G), Harvey (H) & Simon (Si) in November 2004, when it was decided that their offroading of Freelanders had risen to another level that they wished to pursue. Having all organised and run events for the Freelander Club it was apparent that there was a need for a group more dedicated to offroading the Freelander. It was decided that the group would have a limited number of members who were all experienced offroad and reliable enough to be self sufficient when offroad.

Although we may not be driving some of the larger LR vehicles our Freelanders are more than capable of doing most of what their stable mates can do - and in some cases more. With a little imagination and modification a Freelander can display the 'Green Oval' knowing it is holding up the reputation of LR like its big brothers ! This also being one of the aims of MAD Freelanders - to get the Freelander the recognition it deserves as a capable offroad vehicle and not just a vehicle you see on the school run or in the supermarket car park!

'The Progression ....'

During 2007-8 two of the club's founders moved on for personal reasons. Geraint has emigrated to the UAE with his new job, and Harvey has got married and setup working on his own. We wish them both the very best and will still see them at events I'm sure ! At the AGM in July (held as centrally as possible for a national club - during the Peak District Event) we elected a new Chairman, Andy Stickland. Andy has been with the club for a few years already, and upholds the aims for which the club was setup. Scott Morse and Richard Folland also volunteered to help with running the club, and joined John Williams, Alan Bowles and Simon Stirley to make up the new team. You can read a little about us all here.
